Neftegazovaya vertikal' is an old (published since 1996) and popular industry magazine. The magazine focuses on news and events in the fuel and energy complex. In addition to a team of journalists and designers, the magazine has established connections with a wide range of industry experts.

Designed the structure
We started developing the new design with UX work. We studied the most popular sections among users in the metrics, made a list of such sections, ranked them and placed them on the main page in accordance with popularity. This is how we got the second block: news and main topics, it is located immediately after the site header, and the most clickable on the page.
Small improvements were made to all existing pages for the convenience of users. Added the ability to share news and articles on social networks. Provided the ability to publish advertising banners on the site: publishing advertising is an important aspect of the magazine's work.
Developed a new design
The design is based on strict lines and rectangular shapes without rounding. The colors are yellow and black, in the new site they are used for accents. We added an accent color for the most important information.
The design elements are implemented in a block structure: they are easy to reuse on other pages. Due to this, the design looks coherent and recognizable on any page.
For the main pages, we worked out a set of key visualizations in the site header, and taught the magazine designers how to select pictures for article design and news.

Did the layout
We used BEM and rem, the website layout was made based on our corporate standards: vertical twelve-column grid, horizontal indents proportional to the elements.
After the layout, the customer made changes to the design. It happens: not everyone can see from the mockups how the interface will look on the computer.

Sections
The magazine's website is a fairly extensive portal. There is a section with daily industry news, a section with author's articles, magazine issues, including paid and free materials in them, thematic sections on energy areas, author's special projects, conferences and an industry calendar with the main media events, questions and answers from experts.
In addition, there are technical sections with information about subscriptions, advertising opportunities, vacancies and information partnerships. Each such section contains detailed information about the magazine team's offer and a special feedback form, with fields for indicating the information required by sales managers.

Search
The site has a full-text search. It includes not only titles and short descriptions - the search works on all texts on the site.
The search can be customized: specify the publication period of the material and the section in which to search for the article. Implemented on the standard Bitrix search module.

Paid
and free content
Some of the materials on the portal are paid. Visitors purchase a subscription with access to all materials within the paid period, or buy a separate material. When switching to an unpaid material, the user sees an offer to buy it.
Subscriptions and articles are implemented as digital products in Bitrix CMS. Managers have the ability to create periods from a month to a year for a subscription, set the cost of the period, make individual publications a digital product.
There are two subscription levels:
a more affordable option allows you to read materials on the site, a more expensive one allows you to download pdf articles. By At the request of the customer, buyers have access to only one download of the material and an unlimited number of views on the site.
The portal has a system for protecting content from illegal distribution: it allows you to track the material downloaded in PDF, and prohibit its viewing by everyone except the buyer.
Online payment
Implemented with the help of the Robokassa service. They had the most favorable conditions for acquiring and connection when we did a cross-section of payment service providers.


Personal
accounts
This section was not on the site before the work began, it was designed and implemented as part of the site redesign.
There are two types of users: you can register and access your personal account through the site, it is also available to all subscribers of the paper version of the magazine. When subscribing managers create an account, and a message with access details is sent to your email.
In your personal account, you can subscribe and buy individual articles, with the option to pay for them online: the purchase is available through the standard shopping cart mechanism and Bitrix check-out. All purchased articles are available for viewing indefinitely.

Contest
The editorial board came up with an interesting project: a children's drawing contest on the topic of the fuel and energy complex.
We made a special page with the ability for portal visitors to vote for one of the submitted works. Contest participants asked their acquaintances and friends to vote for them, and the contest gave a noticeable increase in traffic to the site from social networks.

Interface
solutions
To create a user-friendly website is the main goal of our work on the «Neftegazovaya vertikal'» portal.
On some pages we display the latest published issue of the magazine for quick access to downloading and online viewing. A similar block is in the end-to-end menu of the site. Their CTR for 6 months is 22.4%.
In the header of the site we display current stock quotes for oil of different grades (Brent, Urals, WTI) and exchange rates. They are updated automatically in real time. This is convenient, but it reduces the loading speed of the portal's main page - for the response time of data providers.

Integration into Yandex News
News, when published on the site, can be sent to the Yandex News service. As a rule, trending materials get there: when sent to Yandex News, the material gets into the search results within 30-60 minutes. The integration is implemented as an RSS feed, to which news marked by the administrator is added, as a news feed marked in accordance with the requirements.
With a well-developed text and structure, news gets to the top of the search results for relevant (trending) search queries.

Features
For editors to work, we made a hidden section in Bitrix, where materials on the site are available for viewing before publication.
We came up with an additional through banner - when turned on, it appears above the site header and menu - so all visitors will definitely see it.
For selling advertising, we made a set of pages with conditions and performance indicators, and the ability to download the conditions in pdf. You can view them at the link -> https://ngv.ru/ad/
An advertising service was integrated into the site relap.io. We have gained experience with it and can safely advise never to use it.
